One of the main targets of the KGB was the United States, and its development of the Atom Bomb. The KGB had become the official name of the agency in the 1950’s. At that time, it was the premiere intelligence agency and the envy of the world.
At the end of World War II, the Soviet Union wanted to expand its influence to western Europe, as well as the U.S.A., thus the beginning of the Cold War. For the KGB, the United States was enemy number 1.
